| June 30, 2010 Canada's Largest 2 Day Celebration Gets a Provincial Hand LANGLEY – The Canada Day Celebrations Society and six other Langley organizations will receive a total of $226,245 in provincial Community Gaming Grants, supporting local festivities and youth programs. “These grants help local organizations promote our heritage, arts and culture in the community,” says Fort Langley-Aldergrove Rich Coleman. “A great example will be our Canada Day celebrations where our Olympic and Parlaympic Canadian pride will be felt once again here in Langley. I can’t wait.” “It is important to support what makes this community special and the events that showcase those unique characteristics,” says Langley MLA Mary Polak. “Langley’s Canada Day event is not only for locals but attracts about 50,000 people from surrounding areas to celebrate our nation’s birthday. A great boost to local businesses.” The Langley Canada Day Celebrations will take place June 30 and July 1 at McLeod Athletic Park and will consist of events such as dog shows, bike shows, car shows, monster truck rides, children’s entertainment and fireworks, as well as games and rides. The other Langley recipients of the first set of gaming grants include: • $80,000 for the Langley United Youth Soccer Association. • $35,000 for the Langley Figure Skating Society. • $31,245 for the Langley Minor Football Association. • $30,000 for the Langley Community Music School. • $20,000 for the Langley Flipper Swim Club. • $20,000 for the Special Olympics British Columbia Society – Langley. • $10,000 for the Langley Canada Day Celebrations Society. This round of funding will support 403 groups receiving approximately $11.4 million in community gaming grants to support arts, culture and sports initiatives across B.C. The remainder of eligible grant recipients for this sector will be notified by August 31st. In total, the Province is allocating $120 million for gaming grants in 2010-2011, 7.4 million higher than the $112.6 million distributed last year.
